A Creative Winter Begins: Art & Craft Clubs Are Back!

The winter term has arrived and with it comes one of my favourite parts of the year—welcoming children back into my Art and Craft Clubs at St. Paul’s Catholic Primary in Tilehurst, Churchend Primary Academy, my Wednesday Home Education Art Group, and my Thursday After-School Club. There’s something magical about this season: the cosy afternoons, the excitement building towards Christmas, and the perfect excuse to get completely immersed in colour, texture, and imagination.

From the very first sessions, the children have jumped straight in with enthusiasm. We’ve already created some spectacular pieces—full of personality, creativity, and the brilliant uniqueness that each child brings to the table. Their confidence grows so quickly when you give them space to explore, and I love watching them light up when they realise what they can make!

This term, I have so many amazing projects planned. The lead-up to Christmas is one of the most creative times of the year, and we’ll be diving into festive crafts, mixed-media artworks, decorative pieces, and some wonderful surprises that I can’t wait to reveal. Some projects will be big, some tiny, some sparkly, some earthy—but all of them are designed to nurture imagination and let the children express themselves freely.

One thing I always like to remind parents is that children won’t always come home with finished artwork after every session. Sometimes our projects span two or three weeks. Sometimes we experiment, practise, explore new techniques, and simply enjoy the process without rushing toward a result. I actually love this part—being able to slow down, take our time, and let the children dive deeper into their creations. Art isn’t always about the final product; it’s about discovery, patience, and having the freedom to play.

I’m so excited for everything ahead this term. With glitter in the air, imagination running wild, and Christmas just around the corner, it’s the perfect season to create something truly magical together.

Here’s to a winter full of art, joy, and creative adventures! 🎨✨
